Deuteronomy 15:1-11

There is no doubt that issues of poverty and economic inequality are not easily solved. Poverty is not a new problem by any stretch of the imagination, nor does it seem to be going anywhere anytime soon. And yet, even despite its persistence, we all know that something needs to be done. Of course, scripture is not usually a place we turn to determine our economic practices (although it has much to say on the subject), but perhaps it ought to be. If we don't, not only will poverty and economic inequality persist, but we ourselves will only further pepetuate the problem.
